Rick joined 5DN in 1956 and later worked for 5KA. He travelled overseas and worked in radio in Toronto,Canada for 18 months. He then returned to Australia and joined the ABC in 1962, where he virtually did everything. He presented ABC TV News and hosted The Adelaide Anzac Day March for many years on ABC TV. In 1975 he was an inaugural announcer for ABC Classic FM,where he presented the popular 'Kaleidoscope' program from 1978 to 1985.
He retired from the ABC in 1988 and lived on Salt Spring Island BC till his passing. He also volunteered and compered a program on CFSI-FM Salt Spring Island for a couple of years 2010-13 (c). He had two children. One was a son Nigel Weston who has had a long on air career in radio in WA and SA. For many years Nigel worked for North West Radio (now Spirit Radio). He still provides race calls at five racetracks in WA and SA.
