2RRR’s Bruce Flarrety passes away

Sydney community radio station 2RRR is mourning the loss of Bruce Flarrety, who sadly passed away recently due to prostate cancer that returned in November.

Bruce joined 2RRR in September 1996 and was inducted as a Life Member of the station several years ago, which was said to be one of his proudest moments.

On top of hosting his trademarked Tuesday Midday Jazz program, Bruce also showed his dedication to 2RRR by serving as Finance Director, Grants Administrator and recently as Radio Training Officer.

2RRR Chairperson Dino Mancini said Bruce had a big effect on everyone at the station.

“There were very few 2RRR members and staff who were not in contact with or touched by Bruce, not least myself as a relative newcomer to radio, and whilst he was cautious at first, he soon provided me with support, guidance and fairness for us to also become friends … an experience he has had with all well-meaning members and presenters at the station over the years,” said Dino Mancini.

“This is indeed a sad day for the 2RRR family and his kin, being survived by daughter Suzanne Williams, son-in-law John and grand-daughters Jade, Amelia and Aria, and also Jemma, William and Paris from his late son John Britton.”

“The Bruce Flarrety legend will live long as our radio station’s best legacy!”
