King’s Birthday Honours List 2025

Long-time ABC Radio National Late Night Live host, Phillip Adams, has been appointed for his eminent service to broadcast media, journalism, the arts, cultural leadership, and to the community.

He was made a member of the order in 1987, then an officer in 1992. At the age of 85, he can now add the suffix AC – denoting Australia’s highest civilian honour – to his name. He spent 33 years at the helm of Radio National’s Late Night Live, “pumping out an infinite number of interviews”, he told Guardian Australia.

Eight more former ABC employees were recognised in this year’s honours list, including Matthew Peacock, Sally Loane, and Dr Cherie Romaro who have all been appointed an AM.

Former ABC staff Ken Casellas, Gerald Doyle, Carol Duncan and Moira Hansen have been awarded an OAM.

The late James Remedio was awarded an AO for distinguished service to the First Nations broadcast media industry, and to the Indigenous community of Australia. Jim had over 30 years’ experience in community and national radio media networks throughout Australia.

Also that late Ian Cousins was awarded an OAM for service to the community of the Gold Coast. Cousins was well known for his management roles at $GG and Radio 97.
