Mudgee’s 2MG to make to move to FM.

After 86 years on the AM band, Mudgee’s 1449 2MG is set to be the next commercial radio station to make the move to FM broadcasting, with its FM transmitters turns on from March 18th.

2MG’s will now move to 97.1 and 101.5 FM after the Australian Media and Communications Authority made changes to the Mudgee Radio License area, allocating 2MG spectrum for both a primary transmitter alongwith a translator service to cover the Kandos and Rylstone areas.

This means that the current 1449AM transmitter will end its coverage in April.

Technicians Ross Arcadia and Ross McClymont from Super Radio Network have spent many months in Mudgee, refitting the main transmitter site that 2MG will share with sister station Real FM with 4 new Elenos transmitters as well as upgrading and refitting the on-air studio in Mudgee.

Station Manager, Mal Rock is excited for the change.  He says he can’t wait for the 2MG listeners and on-air presenters to enjoy the much better sound quality, with the best music ever made really coming to life in high quality stereo.

Afternoon announcer, Chris Mills had been at 2MG since 1977, meaning she has been on-air for more than half of 2MG’s lifespan, and can’t wait for the change.

Chris says that she “Can’t wait the listen to the Rolling Stone’s up loud in clear FM stereo”.

Long term Breakfast announcer and News Editor Craig “Basso” Bassett will also clock up 23 years with the station in March.

The Current 2MG lineup includes,

6-9 Craig Bassett

9-12 John Laws

12-5 Chris Mills
