Radio Presenters Named In The Australia Day Honours

Golden Days Radio Victoria presenter Loretta Simmons has received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division. These were for services to the community through a range of roles including Golden Days Radio and the Victorian Branch of Royal Commonwealth Society.

Frank Avis (pictured below with radio historian Wayne Mac) received the Order of Australia Medal for his service to broadcast media, particularly radio. He was the News Chief at Sydney’s 2GB from 1954 to 1996.

Kath Letch, 3RRR General Manager from 1995-2009 and a manager with CBAA, was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in the General Division.

Others include: TV presenter Craig Bennett – now with the on-air team at Gold Coast community station 94.1FM. He was recognised for his service to broadcast media as an entertainment journalist. Majida Abboud-Saab was recognised for service to the Arab community, SBS Radio and the media. Fiona Campbell, an ABC Classic Radio presenter, who was honoured for services to the performing arts through music.

Nova’s New Changes

Nova has confirmed a major national realignment of its on-air lineup. Beginning on Monday February 9, Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie will move out of Sydney Breakfast and into national Drive. Under the new structure, the Ricki-Lee Coulter and Tim Blackwell show will take over Breakfast, replacing the current Fitzy & Wippa and Kate Ritchie team, while Joel Creasey is expected to shift into a full-time role at Nova Perth, leaving the Sydney show.
