SCA and RadioAnalyzer believe that Australian radio listeners can look forward to even better shows and music formatting. A deal has been reached this week between Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) and Danish analytics company, RadioAnalyzer. Over the next few years, SCA will be using the RadioAnalyzer tools to enhance both music selection and spoken-word on-air content.
Matthew O’Reilly, Head of Broadcast Content at SCA says: “Australian radio is producing some of the best content in the world, but one area where we are still at an early stage is real-time audience insight. In markets like the UK and Europe, broadcasters are already making minute-by-minute programming decisions based on live audience behaviour; we no longer need to wait days or weeks for traditional research results. What impressed us about RadioAnalyzer is its ability to unlock the value of streaming data in a way that is practical, immediate and highly actionable for content teams.”
On the other side of the planet – in Aalborg, Denmark – the sentiment is echoed by Mikkel Ottesen Lonstrup, CEO of RadioAnalyzer.
“It’s a great honour for us to be working with Southern Cross Austereo and to bring our tools to Australia. The radio market in Australia has such immense importance in the overall media landscape, and traditionally it has been one of the strongest markets for radio in the world. Using our tools to gain a clearer understanding of listeners, Australian broadcasters can create even better coherence between listener expectations and the on-air product, and make sure radio stays relevant to millions of people every day,” says the CEO.
The relationship between SCA and RadioAnalyzer is a love-at-first-sight story. After a few talks and demonstrations, it became clear to both parties that the match was obvious and strong.
“We love working with broadcasters who take the responsibility of servicing their listeners seriously and who strive to play a part in the everyday lives of the public. Southern Cross Austereo does just that, and does it brilliantly, where the passion for radio and the implementation of modern methods go hand in hand,” says Mikkel Ottesen Lonstrup.
Matthew O’Reilly, Head of Broadcast Content at SCA on the possibilities: “The first time I saw the RadioAnalyzer platform demonstrated, it immediately felt like the future of radio research and programming. The tools provide incredibly detailed insights – from identifying the strongest and weakest talk breaks on a show, to understanding audience switch-off points, topic engagement and real-time music performance. What makes it especially powerful is that it’s not replacing creative instincts; it’s helping great radio teams make faster, smarter and more informed decisions with live audience behaviour at the centre.”
