One of the great legends of Tassie radio is retiring today. 7HO-FM’s Richard Moore turns off the on air mic light when he does his last radio show today (January 8) from 12noon to 6pm.
7HO FM PD Allan Cameron says: “ There are times when you have to make an announcement that you really don’t want to. 7HOFM’s Richard Moore has let us know that after 53 years on air, he is retiring permanently, with the 8th January, 2024 his final day on air.
There are two names that have come up in conversation in virtually every radio station I have worked… Cooke and Moore. Their on air and very public stunts, skits, stories and characters over 21 years of breakfast radio until 2003, are the inspiration behind many shows across the decades and the country.
Sadly, with the loss of Bob Cooke in 2022, we said goodbye not only to a friend but to a part of an incredible era of radio.
Now another era ends with Richard’s retirement., an era of the true radio Gentleman.
From January 1971 to January 8, 2024, Richard is one of only a few announcers in Australia that have been on air for over 50 years, and we are proud that so much of that career has been spent with us at 7HOFM.
The word “Legend” is probably thrown around way too much, but if the true definition is “Someone popular and admired by so many”, then Richard IS a legend.
