Sydney community radio station 2SER faces uncertain future as university funding dries up

Sydney community radio station 2SER has told volunteers it could close by July this year after Macquarie University said it would end its funding of the station last year. In an email to station volunteers seen by 702 ABC Sydney, 2SER station manager Cheryl Northey said the station understood UTS could not fund the station on its own.

Station alumni say losing the station would be a devastating blow to Sydney’s cultural fabric.

2SER has been pursuing another university partner and said it would be trying to find alternative funding models.

In an email to station volunteers seen by 702 ABC Sydney, 2SER station manager Cheryl Northey said the station understood UTS could not fund the station on its own.
