ABC Perth has unveiled a major shake-up of its radio line-up, confirming rumours Breakfast host Tom Baddeley is bowing out as broadcasters Stan Shaw and Joanna Trilling move in. (Source: WA Today)
The ABC told WAtoday the former TV newsreader and Santos communications executive had decided to return to the resources sector and would hand over the baton to Shaw on January 23.
Baddeley was appointed to the role in January last year following the sudden death of former host Russell Woolf in October 2021.
Shaw, who has spent the past 15 years presenting ABC radio programs in Esperance, Albany, Bunbury and Perth, held the slot temporarily during the search for Woolf’s replacement.
While disappointed to lose Baddeley, ABC Radio Perth manager Sarah Knight said she understood Tom wished to pursue “other interests”.
Meanwhile, Trilling will replace veteran broadcaster and former Drive host Geoff Hutchison, who quit late last year after 15 years on air.
Trilling was previously a producer for ABC Radio Perth and ABC Radio Gold Coast, holding a weekly review segment on the Drive program for the past four years and, more recently, working as a media advisor for Curtin independent Kate Chaney.
She will begin her new role on January 23.
WAtoday understands ABC staffers Patrick Stack and Jake Sturmer were among those approached to fill the Drive seat, both of whom declined.
Former 6PR Breakfast host Gareth Parker – now news director at 9News Perth – was also approached.
