Brian Lehman, a well known radio announcer, died aged 82 in Perth on July 20. His children Lisa, Marion and James shared on Facebook; “It is with a heavy heart that we let you know of the passing of our beautiful Dad, Brian Lehman. Brian slipped away peacefully in the early hours of Monday morning. We will deeply miss his gentle presence in our lives, and the lessons and love that he showed us.” 

Lehman left school at 14 and began his radio career in the dispatch department of 2GB-Macquarie. In a 2001 interview he recalled: “We sent Hop Harrigan and Tarzan serials to radio stations all over Australia … and they actually played them!” He then began working as a panel operator at Sydney’s 2GB and then began his on-air career as a mid-dawn announcer on 2UE in the early 1960s. He got to work alongside well-known names such as Ward ‘Pally’ Austin, Ken Sparkes, Gary O’Callaghan and John Laws. He then went on to work for other stations including 2HD, 3XY (beginning on nights then moving to breakfast), 3AK, 3AW (at one stage working with Doug Mulray), 3DB, 3KZ, 3MP, 6PM, PM-FM, 6IX, The Eagle, 7EX and in his later years he returned to 6IX. One of his most memorable radio interviews was a one-to one interview with Bob Hope in his hotel suite. This was recorded directly after a concert Bob gave in front of 7- 8,000 people.
