Vale Leighton Archer

Leighton Archer, longtime PD and announcer at 2CA Canberra, has died aged 50.

Leighton also worked at 2NUR FM, 2GO/2GGG and 2HD as well as the Australian Traffic Network. The funeral service for Leighton will be held on Friday, 14th November at 2:15pm at the Northern Suburbs Crematorium, North Chapel. (199 Delhi Road North Ryde). Following the service there is a wake at The Ranch Hotel, from 3pm (Crn of Epping and Herring Roads North Ryde).

His career began in community radio. He was one of the first volunteer announcers with Port Stephens FM in Nelson Bay just north of Newcastle. His first shift was in a blue caravan on top of a hill in nearby Salamander Bay as part of their first Test Transmission on April 3, 1993.

In a JJ interview in 2007 he said: “I love LIVE concerts, cooking (I was a chef before I got into radio), and playing golf……badly.”
