Mike Rayson, a former Australian radio announcer and a Christian minister, passed away in the US on September 23. Before entering into Christian ministry Mike worked on air and as a copywriter at radio stations including 5YYY Whyalla, 5CC, 4VL, 2BH/Hill FM, 2TM and Hope 103.2 in Sydney. He was also a well respected singer and songwriter.
Mike was ordained as a United Methodist Pastor in America and became a naturalised US citizen in 2016. He also worked in radio in the US at WBGZ, The Big Z and at 107.1FM and 157AM.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike faced profound personal challenges, including the tragic loss of his eldest son, Sam, in 2007 at the tender age of 11. Mike often shared how, through grief and loss, he experienced a deep sense of divine grace—a testament to his faith and strength.
He is survived by his wife, Jen, and their four children: Laura (25), Oliver (22), Kaylee (11), and Max (6).
Friend Abe Udy (Abe’s Audio) shared on Facebook: “Gutted to hear about the sudden passing of my mate, Mike Rayson. Mike was a talented guy and, as well as playing many gigs together in a few bands, was the first voiceover talent in Port Lincoln in the early days of my little business. We did some funny things – I remember him driving up the hill in his van, recording a voiceover for Gladstone RSL, and then rolling back down the hill as he had run out of petrol. A great muso, song writer, Dad and friend. He’ll be missed.
Glad for you Michael you have a future in glory, sad to hear of your passing. You had a unique talent with your singing and songwriting and we’ll be forever thankful for the contribution you gave to the faith of our teenagers at the time in youth ministry. Eyre Peninsula was richly blessed through you.

Mike was a good bloke. My time knowing him was in Tamworth at 92.9 where Mike hosted the brekky show. The man was a natural entertainer and a dependable, kind and considerate colleague. Something very rare in our industry.
