Vale Richard Daniel 1958-2024

Richard Daniel, radio announcer and former radio station owner, has died aged 65. He began his radio career at 8HA Alice Springs in 1977. He then went on to work for 2MC and 2CS. In 1998, Richard and his wife Julie purchased 2BH and Hill FM in Broken Hill. In 2002 he joined with the Christian International Shortwave Radio facility called Voice International. In more recent times he was a presenter at Salt FM on the Sunshine Coast. In 2022, at the Christian Media & Arts Australia Excellence in Media Awards – all three brothers (Richard, Terry and Glenn) received the CMAA Legacy Award.

Terry Daniel posted this message on Facebook:

” It is with a sad but relieved heart that I need to share the news with Facebook friends and family that my brother Richard passed away at 1:44am this morning in Nambour Selangor Hospital.
This all started back in 2021 with a melanoma on the back of his leg – in the last 6 to 8 months that moved to brain cancers and tumours and in the last 2 weeks they found 3 inoperable tumours deep in his brain. Lesson here for all of us – if you suspect a spot or skin anomaly please get it checked. My wife Moira and I drove up here last Friday to spend the last few days with him and to support Julie, Mel Fry and Matt Daniel too. He knew we were here and we were able to reminisce and say our goodbyes. Lots of plans to be made in the next few days – we will keep you all updated and thanks in advance for your thoughts and prayers. We know now that Richard is with God and at peace.
He’s probably playing cricket already with my brother Glenn !

  1. Deepest condolences to Richard’s family and friends. Richard achieved much in a career that started humbly at 8HA way back in 1977.

I have fond memories of starting my ‘on-air’ career along side Richard, his brother Terry, John Crosby, David Hill, Graham Gilbert and Jeff Huddleston.

It was all so long ago, but yet it was yesterday.

Rest in the love and peace of the Lord, Richard.

I worked with him at 2NZ, Inverell.
He was a very dedicated radio man and a very committed Christian.
Thinking of his family at this very tough time.
