2022 Australia Day – Media Honours List

The Australia Day Honours list has named 1040 Australians recognised for their achievements and their services to the community. Amongst those working in the media were:

  • John Hartigan, a former News Ltd CEO and Prime Media chairman, was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).
  • Antony Walker from Victoria won a Medal of the OA for significant service to the media as a journalist, and to the community.
  • Jane Doyle, Seven News Adelaide presenter, was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). This was for her service to the broadcast media, particularly to television, and to the community.
  • Billy Pinnell, Melbourne radio announcer and music journalist, won an OA medal for his service to radio broadcast media.
  • Caroline Hutchinson, 92.7 MIX FM Sunshine Coast announcer, won a Medal of the OA for her service to the radio broadcast media.
  • Tony Walker, a former foreign correspondent (Australian Financial Review and the Financial Times), is now a Member of the Order of Australia (AM).
  • Peter Ryan, the ABC’s senior business correspondent, also received an OAM.
  • John Hartigan won an OA Medal for distinguished service to the media industry, to Indigenous welfare, and to sport.
  • John Martin, broadcaster and Deputy Chair of 2RPH, won a Medal of the OA, for his service to radio broadcast media.
  • Peter Ryan won a Medal of the OA, for his service to the broadcast media as a journalist.
  • Ronald Smith won a Medal of the OA, for his service to the media and communications sector.

Brisbane radio and TV personality Jamie Dunn has died at the age of 75. Dunn passed away at his family home at Imbil on the Sunshine Coast on March 7. Dunn, is most famous as the man (and hand) behind the popular puppet Agro. Vale Dennis Cometti 1949-2026

Dennis Cometti, Australian TV and radio broadcaster, who coined some of the AFL’s most memorable phrases, has died aged 76. Born in Geraldton in Western Australia, Cometti played 40 matches for West Perth in the WAFL before launching into a full-time broadcasting career. He worked for the ABC from 1972 to 1985, where he broadcast his first Test cricket match aged 23.

KIIS breakfast in limbo as Jackie O (Henderson) gives notice.  

ARN Media Limited [ASX: A1N] announces that Ms Jacqueline Henderson has given notice that she “cannot continue to work with Mr Kyle Sandilands.” Accordingly, ARN has terminated the services agreement with Henderson Media Pty Ltd, under which Ms Henderson presents the Kyle and Jackie O show. Ms Henderson will cease to present the Kyle and Jackie O show. ARN has also offered to Ms Henderson the possibility of an alternative show on the ARN network.
