Perth talkback radio king Howard Sattler dead at age 76

Howard Sattler, a longtime presenter at News Talk 6PR 882 and a former owner and broadcaster at The Sattler Files, has died aged 76. Sattler was born in 1945 in Cootamundra, New South Wales. He had been married to Despene Clarke since September 7, 1996.

He had battled the rare and terminal brain disorder progressive supranuclear palsy, also called Steele-Richardson Olszewski syndrome. Doctors initially thought he had Parkinson’s disease when he began slurring his speech on air, but was later diagnosed with PSP.

The Perth radio shock jock was fired from 6PR in 2013 after an interview with former Prime Minister Julia Gillard, in which he asked a personal question about her partner Tim Mathieson.

He won five RAWARDS (now known as ACRAs) and was a finalist on six other occasions, also winning two New York Festival prizes.
