ABC host Karina Carvalho quits after 17 years with the national broadcaster

Karina Carvalho has announced that she will host her final show this week, after almost two decades with the national broadcaster. Carvalho revealed in an interview with The Australian that she had quit her job as the ABC News channel presenter.

She is due to deliver her final news bulletin during Wednesday’s program.

“The ABC will always have a special place in my heart, I’ve been able to meet and work with so many talented people,” she told The Australian.

Now is the right time to venture into the next phase of my career and I’m excited to see what’s around the corner.

“I wish my colleagues at the ABC nothing but the best.”

Ms Carvalho anchored the ABC news program in Brisbane for five years and has co-hosted ABC News Breakfast in Melbourne.

  1. Hi Karina. I am just so happy with your decision. I have always said that you should be live interacting with your guests-not reading an auto cue. You know that this is your chance to spread your wings. Please be careful of commercial TV. The owners will just suck you dry. You have so many attributes going for you so please have a real break and make sure that you set your parameters. Write into your new contract that you have frozen eggs and you may need time to have the chance to fertilise them.
I am so proud of you because you are leaving for a really genuine reason and that is one of the most beautiful things about you-you are genuine and really intelligent. Please keep in touch with me on 0477877702 and

I will be waiting to hear about your opportunities. Ed Thomas
